Distinctive, groove-heavy, and danceable,
Donna the Buffalo is a band for the people.
One of the most dynamic and determined
bands continuously touring America since 1989, Donna the Buffalo has created a community environment at their shows through their
distinctive, groove-heavy, and danceable music. Donna the Buffalo is a band for the people that is accessible, positive, and memorable.
With roots in old time fiddle music that evolved into a soulful electric American mix infused with elements of cajun/ zydeco, rock,
folk, reggae, and country, Donna’s music often contains social and moral responsibility as core beliefs, and they are just simply
fun to get out and celebrate life with.
“For the dizzying array of styles and genres with which they work, Donna The Buffalo maintain
a surprising level of consistency… over the course of their 25-year career, they retain a sharp focus that has helped them create
some truly lasting music…” writes Elmore. “Few groups are this comfortable as performers, and even fewer would take as many risks.”
The GroovaLottos are a powerhouse soul-funk-blues band comprised of award-winning veteran studio session and touring players and singers; said to play with their souls instead of their hands. A high energy band on a mission to unlock the spirit and the soul; and growing up mentored by and playing for a who's who of classic soul, funk and blues legends, these journeymen are keepers of a musical tradition and legacy, rich with storytelling and infectious grooves. Incredible music and wild senses of humor make them one of the most entertaining bands around. The GroovaLottos are Eddie Ray Johnson, drums & vocals; Mwalim DaPhunkee Professor, keys and vocals; and Richard Johnson, bass. Occasionally, the band is joined by child prodigy percussionist and MC, The Z.Y.G.
By 19, Eddie Ray was on a three year national tour, playing for the likes of Rufus Thomas and Wilson Pickett. Before age 14, Mwalim performed at Carnegie Hall and by 16, was one of the youngest session players in EMI Records history. By 17, Richard was a very sought after player by Gospel, Jazz and R&B artists around New York City and New England.
In 2016, the band release their debut single, "Do You Mind (IfWeDanceWitYoDates)?" and after premiering on the "Direct From Muscle Shoals" radio in March it entered the Indie Blues Charts at #12, rising to #5 and remaining in the Top Ten for 41 weeks, also gaining them the Silver Arrow Music Award in January of 2017. In April of 2017 they opened the Gathering Of Nations Powwow, playing to a live audience of 48,000 people and a webstream audience of 1.5 million.
Their debut album, "Ask Yo' Mama" came out in the early summer of 2017 and is in rotation on over 120 stations through out the USA and Canada and was the August feature album on BBC Manchester in the U.K.. It also entered the Jam Band charts at #30. It recently made it into the preliminary round for the 2017 Grammys in six categories.
We are also nominees in the 2017 Grammys for our album "Ask Yo' Mama".
